Saturday, October 6th, 10AM: Music and Movement at NSAIn this 45-minute class designed to initiate young children into the joys of music, Ms. Carmen helps guide families through their child's rhythmic, tonal and physical development through a mix of play, singing, chants, dancing, instrument exploration, and movement. So get ready to have FUN!! This class meets regularly Saturdays at 10 am and, for this occasion, will be free and open to the public. Ideal for children 9 months to 5 years old. Saturday October 6th, 12PM: "Inspiration from the Textile Artists: A Youth Art Exhibit,” hosted by our partners at LINK Community Charter School, will feature original art by Link students and alumni inspired by the makers of Adrinka and Kente cloth and by master artists such as Faith Ringgold, the Gee Bee Quilters, El Anatsui, and Kehinde Wiley. Students created their art under the guidance of Mrs. Gwen Howard, Link’s fine arts teacher, and local artists-in-residence, including Ms. Aollani Wilkonson and Tamen Hade of Newark School of the Arts. Drop-in art sessions will be provided for youth and families: Fashion Design with NSA’s Ms. Aollani Wilkonson (12:30 pm – 2 pm), Bucket drumming with Mr. Tamen Hade (12:30 pm - 2 pm) and Paper Sculptures & Textile Design with Mr. Charles Smith (1:30 pm – 3pm).
Saturday, October 6th, 4PM: The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim Featuring Guitarist, Joao Kouyoumdjian centered on the rare collaboration by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto of the movie Black Orpheus (1959) and other Bossa-Nova music.
